The most recent Marvel movie “Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania,” follows the titular characters as they journey into one of Marvel’s most elusive regions known as The Quantum Realm. Based on the trailer we can see that, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and co. will be confronted by an alternate timeline version that is Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) who was first introduced in the form of He Who Remains at the close the first season of “Loki” Season 1. Kang is expected to be the main character of Marvel’s Phase 5, culminating in the Phase 6 Avengers movie titled “The Kang Dynasty.” It’s been reported that the Quantum Realm played a role in the 2015 film “Ant-Man” as well as in the 2018 film “Ant-Man and The Wasp” (plus it was instrumental in helping the Avengers find out the best way to travel through time in the 2019 film “Avengers”Endgame”). If you’re in a bit of confusion We’ll break down exactly what Quantum Realm is, what we’ve learned from its prior appearances on screen, as well as what it signifies in the context of “Quantumania.”

What Is the Quantum Realm?

In the MCU there is a quantum realm. Quantum Realm is a separate dimension. The most common methods to access it (that we’ve discovered to date) are through Pym Particles (which are the source of power for The suit worn by Ant-Man) or through the Quantum Tunnel. Pre-“Quantumania,” it’s mostly been depicted as a magical insular place, but when we watch the teaser for the latest film, it appears to be closer to an alien world on which many people reside.

Apart from the Ant-Man films in the series, it also was a part of”Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Agents from S.H.I.E.L.D.” TV series that ended in 2020. In the show, characters utilized the technology not just to traverse time however, but also to gain access to different dimensions of the multiverse. It’s not evident if the events of the show are considered to be to be canonical for the remainder of the MCU.

What Role Has the Quantum Realm Played in the Ant-Man Movies?

Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) first introduces The Quantum Realm in the first Ant-Man film. In the film, he advises Scott about the suit that he’s designed which makes him smaller through the use of Pym particles, isn’t 100% perfect. If Scott does not obey this suit’s regulatory mechanism, he may be taken back to the Quantum Realm, the same fate Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) endured in 1987. Janet she says remains in the Quantum Realm. Scott is able to briefly access his Quantum Realm during the film but can break free from it.

“Ant-Man and Wasp” is a sequel to”Ant-Man and the Wasp” builds on Quantum Realm lore. Hank and Hope are working to free Janet of her place in the Quantum Realm, while Scott realizes that the trip into the Realm in the film’s first installment caused Scott and Janet in a quantum bind. The group works on the idea of a Quantum Tunnel they can use to save Janet. One of their enemies are Ava Starr, aka Ghost who is quantum unstable and is trying to gain access to quantum energy to heal her own quantum instability (the character will be back for the “Thunderbolts” film). Ava Starr also has the ability to rewind objects due to the use of her quantum abilities. In the final moments of the film Scott, Hope, Hank and Janet attempt to harness energy to aid in helping Ava stabilize However, Thanos’s snap occurs and Scott is stuck inside the Quantum Realm as his companions disappear.

In “Avengers Endgame” Scott is finally freed from the Quantum Realm five years later. For Scott, it was just five hours. The Avengers can utilize the power that is Quantum Realm. Quantum Realm to travel back in time , and obtain brand new Infinity Stones that help them to defeat Thanos completely and forever.

“Ant-Man And the Wasp Quantumania,” set in the post-snap future and follows the heroes of the series and Scott’s child Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) journey through The Quantum Realm.

It is interesting to note that The Quantum Realm also appeared in the 2016 film “Doctor Strange” in which it was revealed that the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) employed magic to guide Doctor. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) through it in his journey in order to be a magician. Perhaps, they and other sorcerers may still make use of magic to access the Quantum Realm.

What Role Does the Quantum Realm Play in “Quantumania”?

We’ll never know for certain until the time the movie is released however, according to the trailer, can see that Cassie has developed an object that lets them access the Quantum realm. She likens it to the spacecraft. Janet who has spent the last 30 years trapped in that place is advising her to turn off the power but before she can even shut it off, at the very least, a few members of their group get sucked into the world.

It turns out that the mysterious and mystical realm is also full of other characters such as Kang, M.O.D.O.K. (Corey Stoll) and a mysterious character named Krylar that plays Bill Murray. Bill Murray plays Krylar. Quantum Realm has full communities with their own ways of governance, but it’s unclear what brought them being there. In the film it’s expected that the Quantum Realm (and Kang) will not have much to do with time travel as the story of “Endgame,” and more related to the concept of the multiverse, which films like “Doctor Strange from”The Multiverse of Madness” and shows such as “Loki” have begun exploring. We’ll be able to get a better understanding of how this realm is actually functioning after the movie is released.

“Ant-Man And the Wasp Quantumania” is scheduled to be released on February. 17.
